Given that Apple seem to favour ATI chips for their high-end laptops I think that this is quite an interesting announcement. We may well see this chip in future PowerBooks. What is really interesting about this chip is that is supports Avivo.
What is so interesting about Avivo? Avivo supports hardware H.264 (http://www.ati.com/technology/h264.html) decode acceleration. This could mean that next-generation PowerBooks can decode full 1080p HD content. Probably at under 50% CPU usage.

At our store, they were yelling to the people in the hallway at about 7:00, "anyone want a free t-shirt?" So there was no need to buy one and the people at the store didn't seem to care about it, either.
Oh. The store I went to had a line that stretched nearly halfway across the mall, so they were pretty anal about making sure people actually in the line got in first.

I wonder if they are going to start selling junk. As someone who posts there, I notice that there seem to be lots of teens on the site that seems to be the type that like (and can afford) to buy things w/logos on them. Offering "Spymac" branded stuff (at outrageous prices, I'm sure) probably wouldn't be a half bad idea...

Most likely to help promote being in the keynote attendance. Or it's out of MacWorld's budget. Or Apple said no, because they want exclusive rights to the video and want to put it online on their own terms. Sounds to me like the ladder.

Trying to work with my mind really on the new product. But we have iOS 4 to look forward to - when will that be released?
tomorrow but not sure on time wise.... if you knew links you could have gotten iOS 4 gold masters a long time ago its a full 4.0 but under a tester.... i have it i gotta say its pretty awsome;)

most schools won't let you set up your own wireless network. it's usually in the IT user agreement.

God knows plenty of people in the dorms here have wireless routers.
Now to address the question, you can certainly put a password on the network (using airport admin utility I believe). In addition you can make it so only specific computers may connect to your network, and so your network is hidden.

Derek, like I said earlier, I'm really sorry I wasn't able to help you BEFORE you laid out your hard earned cash but you really did a GREAT job with the video. I'm sure your story, and your EXCELLENT video documenting it, will save someone else from the same outcome in the future.

Thanks Jeff. We'll chalk this up to experience. I think it will turn out for the best. I got a better computer for a lower price from an alternate vendor. Unless something goes completely haywire in the Capital One dispute office I should get my full money back since I have more documentation for Gainsaver's antics than Obama has of citizenship, and I was highly motivated to make a video that may keep some other folks from making the same blunder.
All in all, it could be worse.
@Everyone: Thanks for the support and messages of consolation. I do appreciate it. Please help me get the word out to other unsuspecting consumers. If you would like/link to my video from Facebook and MySpace and your other social networking sites I would really appreciate it.

My Apple wireless keyboard lasts 2-3 months on regular AA batteries.
If your wireless keyboard was backlit you'd have to replace the batteries every second day or so...
