Friend Friday #7: Work vs Blog Wear

I thought that as this week's topic is about combining what we, bloggers, wear every day to work and for outfit posts, it was only fair to post an outfit that I wore to work yesterday.

1. When it comes to outfit posts on your own blog, be honest are they what you actually wore that day?

Yes. When an outfit really comes together then I think, this'll do for an outfit post and whip out the camera. You should see how shoddy I look on the days when the camera stays firmly in its case!

2. For a fashion blogger, working in a corporate environment can be tricky. How do you mesh your day job with your personal style choices?

I actually wrote a post about this earlier this year: How to... dress for success without a suit in sight! I am lucky that my office is not so very strict about our business code as long as we look smart. I have developed over the past few years of my working life an unhealthy obsession with dresses. Dresses are perfect for work: they are smart without being a suit and you can get so many different shapes and styles and patterns that you will be sure to find one that suits your personal style too.

3. When you get dressed in the morning, do you think what should I wear to work or what should I wear for the blog?

I get dress for myself. As I said before, if an outfit works and all of the elements come together then it'll probably end up on the blog but I really don't put an outfit together specifically for a post. (Except for the 30 for 30 Challenge.)

4. Do professionals you interact with ever make comments about your clothing choices?

The only comment I've ever had at work has been, "you look smart". Makes me wonder what I look like the rest of the time!

5. Some bloggers openly admit to wearing outfits only for the blog post. What's your opinion on that?

It all depends, I think, on what you expect or want from a blogger. For me, outfit posts on other people's blogs are style inspiration. If it's a good outfit, I'm not too concerned why the blogger is wearing it.

I am wearing (above): Gap tee, Dorothy Perkins maxi skirt, Topshop pumps and Dorothy Perkins ring.

What do you think about bloggers who dress up specifically for their blog photos? Is this a little like deception, like you're painting a picture of your life for you blog readers that isn't altogether real? Or is that essentially ok, it's the internet after all?

Happy Friday everyone!

UPDATE: I just found this post which examines - in part - the role of the men in our lives and their part in our outfit posts and also the idea of an image which is portrayed by said outfit posts. Read it. It makes for interesting reading.
