Friend Friday #31: Finding the balance

we heart it

Blogging can often feel like a full-time job and when you have one of those already it can feel incredibly hard to find the right balance in your life. Katy, of ModlyChic and Friend Friday fame, wrote an awesome post this week: How to Blog More Often without More Time. Which seems to be an exceeding good introduction to the question she posed for this week's Friend Friday top: How do you do it all and still live, work and play as you should?

1. When it comes to prioritizing your life, in what place does blogging fall?

Blogging is something I do in my spare time. As far as priorities go, it definitely comes after work and spending time with friends and loved ones but also definitely before housework!!!

2. We all wish we had more free time to dedicate to blogging and all it entails. What are your tricks for taking advantage of the time you do have to be as productive as possible?

I keep a notebook with me at all times to make sure that should inspiration hit, I can will never lose the ideas!! I use train journeys and lunchtimes and coffee breaks and evenings in front of the TV or a film to blog too. I tend to compartmentalise my time for each of the different blogging tasks that I do each day/week/whatever. The majority of my time is probably spent researching for new blog posts or writing them but then I often put aside an hour to catch up on those blogs on my reading list and to comment. I find it important to put this time aside, otherwise I end up skimming new posts on my favourite blogs and not leaving comments.

3. Have you discovered any short-cuts that makes blogging easier or more time efficient?

Scheduling posts. It is my absolute (not-so) secret weapon in making sure I post every day and yet don’t actually have to be in front of my computer every day! Series of posts certainly helps to make this easier, things like my Style Icon series, my Mani of the Week series and Wardrobe Basics.

4. Do you have an editorial calendar or something similar that helps you plan ahead?

As above, I don’t exactly have an editorial calendar but I do schedule all of my series’ posts. I also keep ideas etc in my drafts section and when I feel particularly uninspired, I head to them and re-work a few ideas until I come up with something.

5. If time wasn’t an issue what you would be doing on your blog/for your blog that you aren’t doing now?

A lot more outfit posts and more styled shoots in more exciting locations. That is the thing that seems to always go down the best but that I have least time for.

If you're a blogger too, how do you fit your life and job around your blog? You might also fancy checking out this post over at IFB which reassured me earlier this week, that, "It’s OK to not be a professional blogger!".
