Last week I got a wonderful email from the people at the British Fashion Council, telling me: "LFW Application Accepted". I am so excited. This will be my first season, as long as I manage to make it. But that's another story, for another day.
New York Fashion Week kicked off yesterday at its new venue, the Lincoln Centre and it is just a week until the models strut their stuff in our very own London town.
It is no wonder, then, that Fashion Week is this week's Friend Friday hot topic:
1. Do you pay attention to the shows during fashion week? Which designers collections are you looking forward to seeing?
Each season I find myself more and more intrigued by the shows at Fashion Week. For LFW, I am excited to see Burberry's collection and the latest offering from Matthew Williamson.
I always find it kind of strange that just as one new season is ushered in, we're already looking towards the next season.
2. Where are you getting your Fashion Week news from?
The internet is my main source of Fashion Week news: in particular, from Independent Fashion Bloggers, Vogue.com and individual blogs.
3. Over the years the runway has become more than just models displaying the creations of a designer. They are now spectacles. Do you think that adds or detracts from the fashion?
For me, fashion is art. A catwalk show is, therefore, a show. They tell a story about the collection that is being showcased. It's not simply about the clothes anymore.
4. Twice a year, as models begin to strut the catwalk we see articles about model size and body image. Do you think the super thin models are offering an unattainable goal to the public or are we immune to their looks?
This is a certainly a tricky and, often, controversial. However, I think - more to the point - we are now immune to the arguments and articles and "furore" about the size of the models hitting the catwalks. It seems that every season one or two of the designers chose to only use "real" women but it is the exception rather than the norm and often seems to be more of a publicity stunt than for any laudable reason.
5. If you could sit front row at any show what would you want to see? And which celebrity would you want to be sitting next to?
Burberry - as before - is the LFW show I'd most like to see. I love their collections. My ultimate show, from any of the Fashion Weeks, would be Chanel. Back to question 3, Chanel always put on a fabulous show - and the clothes aren't half bad either!!
I'd love to sit next to Alexa Chung - she is Front Row royalty and I always love to see what she's wearing.
