This is a post I originally wrote for British Style Bloggers back in March of this year. But as the weather turns and I have spent two weekends nursing a horrid dose of man flu, I decided it was time for an oldy but a goody.
Sunday is the one day of the week that everyone and everything seems to visibly slow down. Trains and buses are less frequent. Shop opening hours are shortened. Offices are closed.
For me, Sunday is the perfect day to get back to basics and have a “feel good” day.
Here are my ten steps to the perfect Sunday:
1. Don’t set an alarm. This is very important. It allows you to wake up naturally which will make you feel less groggy when you do.
2. Don’t lie in bed for hours after waking. I find it incredibly difficult to take my own advice on this one but it will not make you feel any better. Start the day as soon as you wake up.
3. Brunch. This has to be what Sundays were invented for, or maybe brunch was invented for Sundays. Either way, they are the perfect match. You have two options. Either, use up everything in your fridge/freezer for a mammoth homemade brunch. Or, head out to a little café in your neighbourhood with friends or a boy in tow for a big brekkie.
4. Buy a Sunday paper. I don’t know why but the massive tome of the Sunday papers always bring a smile to my face. Chuck away all the boring sections so that you are left with just the TV guide and fashion/style supplements.
5. Walk off brunch. Sunday afternoon is the time for a bracing walk. Up a hill. Along a beach. In the local park. The fresh air is bound to make you feel better. And, of course, you’ll be walking off the brekkie pounds!
6. Sunday afternoon telly. Nothing better. Come Dine With Me. Murder mystery dramas. Choose your favourite.
7. Bathe. Why not get ready for the week ahead and have a lovely long bubble bath. Take a book and the radio, even some candles and wash all your cares away.
8. Pamper. After your bath time, remember to take care of yourself. Moisturise. Maybe paint your nails?
9. Watch a “feel good” movie. Pick one from our list of ten “feel good” films. It’s bound to put you in a good mood for the rest of the week. And don’t forget the popcorn.
10. Get an early night. This will make you feel refresh and ready to face your Monday morning.
What makes your perfect Sunday? I'd love to know.
