Wardrobe Update #9: School sandals

The idea of this series is to do the leg-work for you to find instant catwalk updates for your Spring Summer wardrobe.

"I don't like making clothes for red-carpet events," Tomas Maier said shortly after his impressive show today. "I like real life."

And so the Bottega Veneta designer had demonstrated when he sent models down the catwalk in flat leather sandals reminiscent of those that my mum used to dress me in for the summer term at school. Easy, laid back and highly practical and great, no matter if your budget won't afford you a designer pair:

SAVE: Casual Attitude Atra

Do these remind you of your school days? Will you be investing in a pair of flat leather sandals?

Christopher Kane proved to be the king of neon on the catwalk for Spring Summer 2011. Neon might not be for everyone but they sure brighten up your wardrobe and your outfit for a hot summer's day:

Maxi dresses are once again dominating the high street this Spring and after they appeared in many different designs on the catwalks, it should come as no surprise really. Last summer I searched for the perfect maxi dress and ended up with three, this year, I have added another to that collection and spent all of yesterday out in the sun in a maxi dress. Here are my top picks from the high street, for wallets of all sizes:

Wardrobe Update #4: Midi-Length Skirts

The idea of this series is to do the leg-work for you to find instant catwalk updates for your Spring Summer wardrobe.

Mid-length skirts on the catwalks at Diane von Furstenberg, Marc by Marc Jacobs, Cynthia Rowley and Marc by Marc Jacobs

Mid-length skirts were all over the Spring Summer 2011 catwalks. Midi-length skirts can be a little daunting and are often dismissed as being "too difficult" to wear. Last Autumn, I wrote a How to... Wear a Midi. If you plan to update your wardrobe this Spring, make sure you check out my selection of midi-length skirts, for every budget:

Wardrobe Update #3: Isabel Marant coloured jeans

The idea of this series is to do the leg-work for you to find instant catwalk updates for your Spring Summer wardrobe.

Coloured jeans on the catwalk at Isabel Marant SS11

Coloured jeans walked their way down the runway for the Isabel Marant Spring Summer 2011 show in Paris last autumn and suddenly denim looked fresh and new! I love the pale pink denim for the warmer weather, while red is a more classic shade that will last for longer. I'd recommend teaming with neutral basics, how would you recommend wearing them?

Wardrobe Update #2: Colour Block

The idea of this series is to do the leg-work for you to find instant catwalk updates for your Spring Summer wardrobe.

Colour blocking is big for Spring Summer 2011. From Issa to Marc Jacobs and Giambattista Valli to Jil Sander brights were everywhere, brightening our day before the sun comes out to brighten the new season. The brighter, the better this season. Either team with more bright colours or bright whites, as was seen on the catwalks at Jil Sander (photo bottom left).

To help you to update your wardrobe for the new season, I have searched The Outnet for some beautiful brights to suit any budget:

Wardrobe Update: Flares

This is the start of what I expect will become a bit of a regular series for me. Does everyone appreciate the series on here? Or are they utterly bored with the concept already? Personally, I like them. I like them on the blogs I read and I like to write them as they are something I can prepare in advance for periods when I might not be able to blog so much but you can still have something new to see and some pretty clothes to look at! Win win, I say!! But, please, let me know your thoughts.

Flares on the catwalks at Topshop Unique, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton

'70s styling was all over the catwalks at the end of last year, indicating a spring and summer filled with nostalgic dressing. When I read The Online Stylists post in which she wondered if she'd be donning flares again this spring, I knew I had found the inspiration for my first post in this series. Flares have been finding their way onto the high street for the past few months now, and as the warmer weather, hopefully, approaches I am being to dream of pairing my wedges with flared jeans for a real retro look.

Here are my top picks, whatever your budget:

SAVE:

Dorothy Perkins Mid wash skinny flare jeans

SPEND:

Twenty8Twelve by s.miller Pierre high-rise flared jeans

SPLURGE:

J BRAND Bette high rise wide leg jeans

Will you be re-living the 70s this summer?
